About SNI

SNI Board and participants
With the support of IDH and FairMatch Support, SNI was founded in 2015 by a number of front running private sector parties. They shared the deep-rooted desire to improve the circumstances in nut producing countries and work towards sustainable supply chains.

SNI is a foundation under Dutch law. The SNI members elect the Board which currently consists of representatives of Intersnack, Olam and the Trade and Development Group (TDG). IDH is advisor to the board and FairMatch Support functions as secretariat / executive officer.  SNI cashew projects are implememted under the umbrella of ComCashew. SNI is a pre-competitive platform that is open for all actors in the nut supply chain that strive for a more transparant and sustainable nut sector.

Next to the board, the foundation has a participation council of all parties involved. In this  council the innovations and interventions are discussed. The council gives advise to the board. Currently, Ahold Delhaize, Anatrans, Jungle Nuts, Olam Vietnam and Olam Ivory Coast, TDG and Intersnack are participating.

SNI’s traceability software is powerded by Chainpoint.

Cooperation with ComCashew
SNI creates powerful coalitions with programs and initiatives with a similar goal. To scale up impact in the cashew sector, SNI intensified its cooperation with ComCashew in 2018. SNI’s cooperation with ComCashew will result in better access to funds, a broader uptake of the traceability Comcash logosoftware amongst companies in the nut chain.  ComCashew Director Production for GIZ Florian Winckler:
Both SNI and ComCashew have a manifest desire to strategically develop sustainable supply chains and a healthy cashew sector. Together we will contribute to reducing the yield gap in production, the competitiveness gap in processing and the sometimes complex regulatory reality in the cashew producing countries.  The past years, ComCashew and SNI have learned a lot, now it is time to share the lessons learned, bundle resources and scale up impact, in order to contribute to the development of a healthy cashew sector in Africa ”.

SNI plans to build similar alliances for the other nut categories.
